The Mariner
One of Britain’s best loved actors, Timothy Spall, is attempting to navigate around the coasts of Britain, in a barge. He hasn't had any lessons in going to sea; he's self-taught himself, using a kid’s book “Learn to Navigate”. The idea of going to sea came to him after a life threatening illness when he promised himself, if he survived, he would take up boating.
Spall, and his wife Shane, bought a narrowboat and navigated the canals of Britain. The next stage was the sea and they set off from London four years ago in a specially built sea-going barge. In this series Spall navigates from Fowey, Cornwall around Land's End and up into Wales.
